Christ’s Ministry Continuing Around Galilee – Daily Devotional – Lesson 12

Sunday: Parable of the Lost Sheep — Luke 15:1-7
In the parable of the Lost Sheep, the man with one hundred sheep represents Jesus, the Good Shepherd. The sheep which wander away are those who backslide from the faith. The parable was Jesus’s response to the Pharisees who were murmuring that He associated with sinners. Christ showed that any of them would leave the 99 sheep in the fold to go seek for a single lost sheep. The conclusion here is that the value of a man is even more than the value of a sheep. Instead of being critical

Christ’s Ministry Continuing Around Galilee – Lesson 12 – What Really Matters?

Primary Text: Luke 15:1-17:10

Memory Verse: So He spoke this parable to them, saying: “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in

Sunday: The Narrow Way — Luke 13:22-30
Jesus did not answer the question that was posed to Him, of how many would be saved. Instead, He stressed that every man should make sure of his own salvation. He indicated that there is a door through which each man must seek entry. The door is like a gate to a man’s spiritual home. It is also the gate to eternal life and the fate of this world. Many close the door and don’t seek to enter and Jesus expresses that their reward will be eternal punishment.

Christ’s Ministry Continuing Around Galilee – Lesson 11 – When Jesus Went to Dinner

Primary Text: Luke 13:22-14:35

Memory Verse: Luke 14:12-14

Introduction:
Jesus had been invited to the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees. He had gone there to have the Sabbath meal. The Pharisees were watching Jesus closely, hoping to trap Him. Using the very law they wanted to trap Him with, Jesus turned the tables on them, and their objections to Him healing on the Sabbath were silenced.

Knowing the innermost secrets of their hearts and seeing their actions prompted Jesus to teach a parable known as “The Great Supper.” This parable has similarities to “The Wedding Feast”

Sunday: The Sheepfold — John 10:1-4
There were several types of sheepfolds common in Jesus’s time. The one referred to in this passage had a door, so it likely also had a stone wall surrounding it, topped with briar thorns, and was located in the front courtyard of a house. The fold usually grouped several flocks, and each shepherd would call to his flock and his flock only would respond to his call. If a stranger attempted to take the sheep, they would not follow him.

Sunday: Healing the Blind Man — John 9:1-7
Many people in the times of Jesus assumed that sickness and disease was caused by sin. A rabbinic saying from the period said, “There is no death without sin and no suffering without iniquity.” Because they were familiar with this philosophy the disciples want to know whose fault it was that a man had been born blind. Jesus responded that it was no one’s “fault,” but that the man was blind so that God could be glorified. This reference shows that our attempts to determine the source of suffering can be futile,

Sunday: Seeking a Sign — Luke 11:14-36
One of the earthly trials Jesus faced was that others were constantly testing Him. In this passage they were looking for a sign as to Jesus’s power and authority. Jesus explained that His authority obviously came from God since He was ridding the demon from the man, not the other way around. Jesus also pointed out that they already had the signs of the prophets, yet they still didn’t understand. God made known His mysteries and revealed His saving purpose through the prophets. But because of their hard hearts, the people were spiritually
