As Your Soul Prospers – Lesson 5: Becoming Debt Free

Scripture Text: Revelation 18:1-20

Memory Verse: “The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.” Proverbs 22:7

Lesson Aim: To outline a biblical perspective on debt and encourage believers on how to get out of debt.

In 1994, author Larry Bates wrote a book, The New Economic Disorder, in which he identified five deadly forces that would hit our economy: (1) the banking crisis; (2) federal debt and deficits; (3) business and personal debt; (4) recession/depression; and (5) massive, renewed inflation.1 So, just the last one remains to manifest.

Given the economic

As Your Soul Prospers – Lesson 4: Giving God’s Way

Scripture Text: 2 Corinthians 9

Memory Verse: “But this I say, he which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.” 2 Corinthians 9:6

Lesson Aim: To share the importance and benefits of giving God’s way.

In Lesson 3, we mentioned how millions ignore God’s basic and simple laws concerning tithing and giving. For many people, giving is a sensitive issue. It touches the core of their being.

Why is giving important?  Well, giving is a reflection of God’s character. God is a giving God, a genuine giver, and the most generous.

As Your Soul Prospers – Lesson 3: Financial Prosperity/Divine Provision

Scripture Text: Deuteronomy 28:1-14

Memory Verse: “No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” Psalm 84:11

Lesson Aim: To provide an understanding of God’s divine provision.

Poverty is unnecessary! It does not help anyone and it is not a gift from God. As believers, our God has promised to be our Provider. He is more than enough (El Shaddai) and able to do exceeding abundantly above all we can ask or think. God is our Source and our God will supply all our need according to His riches in glory by Jesus the Messiah (Philippians 4:19).

As Your Soul Prospers – Lesson 2: Prospering Spiritually

Scripture Text: 3 John

Memory Verse: “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” 3 John 1:2

Lesson Aim: To reinforce the concepts and tools necessary to prosper spiritually.

God wants you to prosper spiritually! When God called you, He made an investment into your life; just as one does with a financial investment. His expectation is for you to grow, advance, and expand your border. Spiritual prosperity points to being successful in spiritual things, i.e., having a thriving relationship with God.

But how does the believer prosper

As Your Soul Prospers – Lesson 1: As Your Soul Prospers

Scripture Text: Joshua 1:1-9

Memory Verse: “Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.” Deuteronomy 29:9

Lesson Aim: To define what it means to prosper and what God has promised.

What does it mean to prosper? To prosper means, “To succeed, thrive, grow, etc. in a vigorous way.”1 Thrive, grow, succeed. Success may be defined as, “A favorable or satisfactory outcome or result.”2 God wants us to succeed. He wants us to thrive. He wants us to grow! Jesus came that we might have abundant life.

Foundations – Lesson 7: God Is Our Heavenly Father

When disciples are born again, they have new life. They know how to breathe, how to eat, and how to have a family life. Now they need to know who is in charge of the family – Our heavenly Father. Jesus taught His disciples to say, “Our Father in heaven…” (Matthew 6:9). Our heavenly Father loves, protects, provides for, and disciplines us. He also promises a New Kingdom to His children.

The Heavenly Father’s Heart:

“The Lord has appeared of old to me, [saying]: ‘Yes, I have______ you with an __________ ______; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn

Foundations – Lesson 6: The Church Gathering

When you become a disciple of Jesus Christ, you are a member of God’s family. Every spiritual child needs to become a part of a spiritual family. God is your heavenly father, and all Christians are like brothers and sisters of the same family. “…the house of God, which is the church of the living God…” (1 Timothy 3:15). The house of God is not a building or a religious organization but a group of believers (Acts 7:48-50). We are the church!

Foundations – Lesson 5: Daily Devotions

Now that we have entered into a love relationship with our Heavenly Father, we need to devote ourselves to Him. To know a person, you need to have regular contact with him or her. Along these same lines, if you want to have a close relationship with God, you need to “set a time” just for God every day. We want to set a time for a daily devotional.

  • The Content of Our Devotional Time:
Talk with God through prayer and listen for His “still small voice” (1 Kings 19:11-13). Prayer is a two-way conversation.
    Let God speak

Foundations – Lesson 4: The Great Commission and the Commandments of God

The Great Commission

You are now a disciple, a child of God, a member of God’s family. You have assurance of salvation. God calls you to spread the gospel and teach new believers to obey all of His commandments. Then they can proceed to teach even more people about the good news of salvation and train them also. There is a calling to share the gospel that we should hear each day.

Call from Above – from Heaven:

  • The call for someone to go (Isaiah 6:1-8; Matthew 28:18-20).

Call from the Inside:

  • We are compelled to tell others (1

Foundations – Lesson 3: Understanding Prayer

Every new born believer needs assurance of salvation and baptism. That was Lesson 1 and 2. Just as a newborn baby needs to breathe, a new “born again” believer needs to breathe (John 3:3). This lesson on prayer will teach you how to breathe in your new spiritual life. Praying is talking with God. When you pray, you should be frank and sincere, the same way the Bible tells us that Jesus talked with God and taught His disciples.

How Often Should We Pray?

“…that men_____________ ought to pray…” (Luke 18:1)
“praying _____________ with all prayer…” (Ephesians 6:18)
